Camouflage (Thailand and Her Neighbors), is a reference to ERDL Pattern of camouflage. It was used in the production of United States military uniform in the Vietnam War, since early 1967. The fact that Thailand and neighboring countries have copied both the colors and patterns of the ERDL Pattern from the US as part of the ‘Americanization’, which is presented in every paradigm of national development, including economic, political, military, education, public health, arts and cultures.
A map of each country’s territory has become a symbol of national identity. Each country was formed by the merging of kingdoms and diverse communities. The background or possibility of maps as well as boundaries that pass through many eras can demonstrate the immigration, losing, and gaining of territories over hundreds of years. This makes the borders of the nations, communities, and ethnicities vary and flow, making it difficult to separate. It is like camouflage cartography, with complexity and ambiguity, some revealing and some secretive.
